DAIGREPONT - Sieur Jean Jacques Vernin Daigrepont, native of Moulin, province of Bourbon, France, first settled in Pointe Couppee about 1810, married there in 1815, but by 1819 he and his bride had moved to Avoyelles, where they settled the family farm near present day Hessmer. Daigrepont had married Eugenie Vitrac, born March 9, 1791, daughter of Dr. Jacques Paul Vitrac, a native of Bordeaux, France, and Marie Clemence LaCour. Jacques and Eugenie had only one child, Pierre Daigrepont, before the early death of Jacques. After the death of Jacques, his widow remarried in 1822 Ebenezer G. Paxton. Pierre Daigrepont, born c1815, the only child of Jacques and Eugenie Daigrepont, married, on December 27, 1836 Agelie Ducote, born c1820, daughter of Jean Pierre Ducote and Elise Laborde. Pierre died before 1880 and Agelie before 1890. They lived their entire life on a farm near Hessmer. They had eleven children. (summary by Randy DeCuir)

You will notice that Agelie Ducote and Azelie Ducote is the same person. Also notice her husband's name Pierre Daigrepont is spelled as Pierre Ducrepont. I find this interesting because my grandfather Elize Daigrepont, sometimes spelled his name Elize (Elise) Ducrepont, on his children's birth records. I found the following information (not including dates) from ancestry.com submitted by Louis DeVon (Don) LaBorde, unless otherwise noted. The names and dates of the 11 children of Agelie (Azelie) Ducote and Pierre Daigrepont (Ducrepont) were given to me by Melvin Daigrepont, 4-8-99. Melvin's father and my father are brothers. The dates and information in 'generation 1-4' were given to me by James Dubroc. James Dubroc also gave me the marriage dates of Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont's children.

Azelie Ducote and Pierre Daigrepont Sr. children's marriage dates:

Azema Lemoine married 22 Dec 1868 Pierre Daigrepont by T.A. Rebours. Witness: Alcide H. Normand, Ovide Mayeux, Aristide Ducote. (Book B-3, # 461.)

Melina Ducote married 19 Sep 1871 Emile Daigrepont by Father J. Janeau (Juneau) (Book c, # 370)

Eugenie Milligan married 10 Dec 1868 Louis Daigrepont by T.A. Rebours (Book B-3, #458)

Marguerite Daigrepont married 5 Feb 1878 Sylvert Laborde by Father J.E. Chauvin (Book D, # 367)

Anna Daigrepont married 9 Oct 1879 Felix Marcotte by J.E. Chauvin (Book D, # 549) one of the witnesses was Elizee Daigrepont

Elisse Daigrepont married Eliza Chenervert, January 9, 1983

Allaine Daigrepont married 21 Apr 1881 Homer E. Bordelon by J.E. Chauvin (Book E, # 137) I show a record with the same date and husband but the girl's name is Mamie. Abel Daigrepont married Clara Dauzat, January 10, 1889. Note: Abel was a witness to Elize' Daigrepont and Julia Dauzat in 1888. Are Julia and Clara sisters? See Julia's wedding to Elize' Daigrepont below.

*Marceline Chenevert married 9 Nov 1880 Elisee' Daigrepont by Father J.E. Chauvin (Book E, # 64)

*Julia I. Dauzat married 4 Dec 1888 Elize' Daigrepont by J.E. Chauvin (Book F, # 70) Abel Daigrepont was one of the witnesses.

*Juneau, Celestine, m. may 24, 1896, Elizee' Daigrepont by H. Bordelon, J.P. Wit. V Goudeau, Eugene Dauzat, Oge Villemarette (Book G, #30)

Note:

Pierre Daigrepont Jr., who married Azemia (Agenia) Lemoine, had their third son of nine children, Avit Daigrepont born 1874. It is possible the three older children of Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont Sr. were already having children getting married by 1885. Avit Daigrepont married Emma Marttalt, October 17, 1895. So, some of the above marriages could be the grandchildren of Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont rather than their children.

I can only find one marriage to Elise (Elisee') Daigrepont that was around the time my grandfather Elize Daigrepont was born... so I assume Marceline Chenevert is his mother. The document I received from Mack Daigrepont also shows Elise Daigrepont Sr. married to Celestine Juneau. It was a handwritten note so that is still questionable.

Generation No. 5

Azelie (Agelie) Ducote was born in 1820 (another source says 1823). She married Pierre Daigrepont, born 1815, the only child of Jacques and Eugenie Daigrepont on December 27, 1836. She was the daughter of Jean Pierre Ducote and Elise Laborde. Pierre died before 1880 and Agelie before 1890. They lived their entire life on a farm near Hessmer. Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont (Ducrepont) had eleven children.
